Yiming yì míng · 翳明

Location. On the neck, 1 cun posterior to Yifeng (TE17), in the depression posterior to the mastoid process.

The name joins yi, the classical word for a film or nebula over the eye, with ming, bright: it is a name drawn from the eye complaints discussed in older Chinese writing, not a description of anything at the site. It is a point outside the fourteen channels, on the neck just behind the ear, in the soft hollow behind the mastoid bone. Later acupuncture literature discusses it mainly in connection with the eyes and with sleep; the classical record for it is thinner than for the channel points around the ear, and its reported effects are not established by modern research.
