Gua sha guā shā ·

A smooth tool is pressed and stroked along the surface of the skin with oil, producing red or purple petechiae that fade in a few days. In the classical description this releases "stagnation" at the surface; practically, the visible marks are small capillary changes.

It should not be performed over broken skin, bruises, varicose veins or areas of poor circulation.
