Bamboo Shavings zhú rú · 竹茹

Bambusa tuldoides (and allied Bambusa / Phyllostachys species)

Nature and flavour. Sweet, slightly cold; Lung, Stomach and Gallbladder systems.

Classed as clearing heat and dissolving phlegm, as easing restlessness, and as settling the stomach against nausea and vomiting. Traditional use covers hot phlegm with cough, a restless or agitated feeling attributed to heat, and nausea or vomiting from stomach heat.

性味归经。甘，微寒；归肺、胃、胆经。

归类为清热化痰、除烦止呕。传统用于痰热咳嗽、胆火挟痰之烦闷不宁，以及胃热所致恶心呕吐。

Classical category · no formulas, no dosages, no herb-drug combinations are given.

Safety. Slightly cold — not for cough of the cold-phlegm type or for people with cold, deficient digestion. Human safety data in pregnancy and breastfeeding are insufficient. Since several bamboo species supply this material and the shavings look alike, buying from a traceable supplier matters more than the label.
