Lily bulb bǎi hé · 百合

Lilium brownii / Lilium lancifolium

Nature and flavour. Sweet, slightly cold; Heart and Lung systems.

Used both as a vegetable and as a Yin-nourishing herb; the traditional categories are moistening the Lung and calming the Heart, and it is a familiar ingredient in Chinese dessert soups.

Classical category · no formulas, no dosages, no herb-drug combinations are given.
Safety. Food-grade in ordinary culinary amounts. Only the bulbs sold as food should be eaten — ornamental lilies are not the same product, and lilies are dangerous to cats. A cough that lasts more than a couple of weeks, or that comes with fever, breathlessness or weight loss, needs a clinician's assessment rather than a diet change.
