Lablab Bean bái biǎn dòu ·

Lablab purpureus (L.) Sweet

Nature and flavour. Sweet, slightly warm; Spleen and Stomach systems.

Recorded as supplementing the Spleen and resolving dampness, and at the same time simply as a food for hot, humid seasons. Traditionally described for loose stools and poor appetite attributed to Spleen deficiency, and for summer dampness with fatigue, heaviness and reduced appetite. Its action is described in the traditional frame as supplementing Spleen qi and transforming dampness — an everyday pulse rather than a dramatic drug.

Classical category · no formulas, no dosages, no herb-drug combinations are given.
Safety. The raw seed contains lectins (including phytohaemagglutinin) and trypsin inhibitors; raw or insufficiently cooked beans have caused nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Cook it thoroughly before eating. The seed on the market is sometimes confused with other legume seeds, so the name alone does not identify what you have. Persistent diarrhoea, blood in the stool or unintended weight loss is not a self-treatment matter — see a licensed clinician. Safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established.
