Qing Ying Tang (Clearing the Nutrient Level Decoction) qīng yíng tāng · 清营汤

Safety. The classical version of this formula was written with rhinoceros horn. Rhinoceros horn is now prohibited under CITES and is not a lawful ingredient; water buffalo horn is used in its place in contemporary Chinese practice, and the substitution rests on traditional practice rather than on confirmed equivalence. Contains coptis, whose berberine content is documented to interact with several medicines and is best avoided in pregnancy and in infants. The formula is cold and cloying in nature, so it is not suited to someone whose digestion is already weak. Which herb amounts apply is decided by a licensed practitioner after pattern differentiation, and is deliberately not stated here.
