Qi-regulating; classically toxic

Sichuan Chinaberry chuān liàn zǐ ·

Melia toosendan

Nature and flavour. Bitter and cold; classed as slightly toxic in the classical sources; Liver, Small Intestine and Bladder systems.

A qi-regulating herb that drains heat from the Liver and moves qi in the classical framework; it is also recorded against intestinal parasites. The tradition itself records this herb as having low-grade toxicity, and here the classical warning and modern case reports point in the same direction.

Classical category · no formulas, no dosages, no herb-drug combinations are given.
Safety. The tradition itself classifies this herb as slightly toxic, and poisoning and liver injury have been reported. It is not for self-directed use, not for pregnancy, and not for anyone with existing liver disease or with cold and weak digestion.
